About Croatian Philatelic Society

Today's tremendous enthusiasm for stamps and coins of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Yugoslavia and the Central European-Balkan area is due in large measure to the activities of the Croatian Philatelic Society.

The CPS is a non-profit organization devoted to the study and exchange of information on Croatian and related postal issues, postal history and numismatics. The specialty group was founded in the Spring of 1972 in Borger, Texas. Its members' interests cover all of the stamps, post cards, coins, currency, maps and military decorations of the entire Central European-Balkan area.

The organization's official publication, the award winning Trumpeter, is published quarterly. The illustrated journal carries articles on philately and numismatics as well as news of the CPS and its members scattered in 32 different countries around the world.

Each year the Croatian Philatelic Society holds meetings and exhibitions, usually in conjunction with a national or regional show. In addition, local chapters have been established. Other important services available to members are the expertizing services, library, sales division and translation service.

Anyone who is a student of both World Wars or who collects or would like to start collecting the philatelic and numismatic material of the area in any form will find that membership in the CPS provides distinct advantages. A cordial invitation to join the Croatian Philatelic Society and participate in its activities is extended by the organization to anyone having an interest in this philatelic-numismatic field.

25th Anniversary of the Croatian Philatelic Society

Kaleidoscope

By ECK SPAHICH

Greetings fellow CPS members and Trumpeter readers around the world. It is a privilege to greet you on this 25th anniversary of our specialty organization.

We are grateful to all of you for your membership and support of our society. ours is perhaps one of the most interesting and intriguing world geographic areas to collect. Just a few years ago, countries such as Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Croatia, and many others in Eastern Europe were relatively unknown, and in some cases unheard of outside philatelic circles, and at that were known as the "dead countries." History has proved these once so-called "dead countries"are certainly still alive and well, crying for freedom and independence, and striving to go into free market economy.

25th ANNIVERSARY COVER -- A limited number of 25th anniversary covers are now available to CPS members and subscribers. The recently issued cachet (envelope) marks our society's 25th birthday. The specially designed cover, illustrated below, was created by Croatian artist and CPS member Vladimir Novak, who now lives in Zagreb. The cover was printed by our valuable member Mr. Mirko Coric of St. Louis, Mo. The cover depicts the American eagle with U.S. and Croatian coats of arms under the eagle.

Under the coat of arms is the trumpet, postal symbol, surrounded by a postmark-like circular with words Croatian Philatelic Society -- 1972-1997, and the words, "25th Anniversary" are part of the commemorative cachet.

The limited edition cachet 6 1/2x3 1/2 inches (16.5x9 cm) was printed in blue. The cover will be postmarked in Borger, Texas, where the society was founded in the spring of 1972.

The cover is available at $1.60 each, or 3 for $5, from CPS, P. 0. Box 696, Pritch, Texas 79036-0696. Plain, unstamped covers are also available for personal use at the price of $5 for 10-, or $8 for 20, postpaid.
